USEFUL INFORMATION

Need to Know

Personal Identity

God adopted you as his child and equipped you to shine his light in darkness. As you live and work and take opportunities to talk to others about Jesus, your words and the example of how you live will draw people to him.

Children’s Education

AIM cares for your children and desires each has an appropriate education that will meet their needs and prepare them for adulthood. We provide support for you as you consider the different options available. Before leaving for your ministry assignment you will fill out an Educational Planning questionnaire so that your mobilizing office can be sure that what is planned meets the requirements of your children’s home country. For any children who are not part of a recognized educational program, we ask that they receive annual assessments as an objective means of measuring their educational progress. Our TCK Consultant (tckconsultant.io@aimint.org) is available to help you navigate this important part of your children’s lives.

Community and Teams

AIM is multi-cultural. It is an international organization with members from many different countries and cultures. When you arrive at your place of service, you will be adapting to your host culture and also to the culture(s) of your team members/colleagues. You will find more information on this page.

Language Learning

Aly Mazza is AIM’s Language Initiative Consultant and is passionate about supporting people in learning language.  Please feel free to contact her – language.io@aimint.org if you would like her monthly updates or to access resources and advice for language acquisition.

Reviews

Member care and accountability are important and integral to being a member of AIM. AIM leadership has the responsibility to support your wellbeing and to hear your voice as to how to improve as an organisation.

One way of doing this is through reviews at the beginning of each term of service, annually, and at the end of each term. To help you prepare for these meetings, they will ask you to fill out a form to review different aspects of your life and work.

Leave Requests and Travel Notices

You initiate your home assignment and any other official Leave by making a leave request to your unit/team leader.  See the Member Handbook Leave policy GMP18.

Travel notices need to be filled out when you travel outside your ministry country.

Street Harassment

You may be traveling in a new environment where the social expectation and cultural behavior wouldn’t be acceptable at home. This can result in feelings of helplessness and isolation. Some general advice would be: 1) get familiar with the culture, 2) travel with a friend, 3) don’t travel in isolated places or in the dark, 4) ignore as much as possible. The website How to Deal with Street Harassment is helpful, as are the videos below.
